Natural History Workshop:
Using our taxidermy handling collection this workshop builds on our KS2 Science Big Question: Which is most importance specimen in Manchester Museum? Pupils will explore different ways of classifying and grouping creatures from around the world in order to discuss which one is the most important.
Through interactive challenges and the lens of how museum displays are created, pupils will:
- Practice classifying and grouping different animals and insects according to their own observations and knowledge
- Put themselves in other people’s shoes explore different perspectives on nature
- Curate their own museum natural history display
Through these activities, we aim for pupils to recognise that many alternative ways of grouping and classifying are potentially valuable and interesting – including the standard ‘scientific’ approach. This workshop has been developed as part of our work to bring global Indigenous perspectives to our collection.
