Go on a Time Odyssey !

An exciting free learning adventure for KS2 pupils at Manchester Museum  

Time Odyssey is a major new national learning programme created by Art Explora and the British Museum, in collaboration with digital developer 1UP.

It takes children on a quest through their local museum – both physically and virtually – using a fun, interactive gamified learning experience designed for Key Stage 2 pupils.  

How will the class be led?

• The class teacher will be responsible for leading the pupils on the day, with introductions, timetables, resources (including tablets) and technical support provided by Manchester Museum's Visitor Team.
• We recommend 4-5 accompanying adults per class (more if pupils require reading or behaviour support), which may include parent helpers and TAs.
• If you require a more supported day, you may prefer a workshop or Takeover Monday.

What does our day include?

• The Time Odyssey experience lasts 2.5 hours and covers the Human History and We Belong Zones 
• 30 minutes will be available during your day to eat lunch in our picnic area.
• 30-60 minutes will be available to explore other areas of the Museum (e.g. dinosaurs and animals!)
• Every class booking is for a specified timetable. This is visible in detail after you make your booking, but outlined below to help you choose. 
• We ask that you please plan to follow your timetable closely to help us manage spaces in the busy museum. 
• If you require a more flexible day, you may prefer a half-day workshop or a self-led visit. 

What do I need to know about the funding?

• The Time Odyssey experience itself, and entry to the Museum, are both free.
• Transport costs are reclaimable from the funders, Art Explora, at up to £500 per class. Eligible schools have been informed, but please get in touch if you are unsure. 
• Only one year group per school may receive travel funding unless by prior agreement with Manchester Museum.

How to book:

• To bring one class in a day, please try booking Timetable A first. 
• Multiple classes can be brought in one day on Timetables B/C/D; however these dates have more limited availability.
• Please add each class (up to 35 pupils) on a separate timetable to your basket, before checking out.

Timetables:

• Timetable A: arrival by 10am and departure from 12.30pm (or from 2pm if including lunch and self-led time with animals and dinosaurs!)
• Timetable B: arrival by 10am and departure from 1pm (or from 2pm if including self-led time with animals and dinosaurs!)
• Timetable C: arrival by 10.15am (or 10am to include dinosaurs!) and departure from 1.30pm (or from 2pm to include animals!)
• Timetable D: arrival by 10.30am (or 10am to include animals and dinosaurs!) and departure from 2.15pm.
