Home Educating Families Takeover: Ancient Egyptians, Monday 15th December 2025

Explore the ancient Egyptian collections at Manchester Museum and decide which is the most “important” through facilitated object handling with our learning team, curator Q&A, gallery activities and more. 

Aimed at children age 7+, this is a special event just for home educating families whilst the rest of the museum is closed! All children attending must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.

You will also learn how to use our collections search function to continue your historical investigations at home, AND how to take part in our Home Educators History Share event on Thursday 22nd January.  

Timings: 

Arrival between 10.00am and 10.30am  

Picnic area will be open 12.30pm-1.00pm 

Event closes at 1.00pm

Cost:  

£6 per child (aimed at aged 7-12) 

Accompanying adults and siblings aged 3 and under are free (all attendees need a ticket)  

Young siblings: Please note we have limited spaces for pushchairs and prams on the galleries (though a buggy park is available). You may wish to bring your own activities for any young siblings who need to attend. 

Food and drink: We will provide squash and water on arrival. Our picnic area will be open 12.30pm-1.00pm. Please note that our café does not usually open on Mondays so you should bring any food and drink that you need for the morning.

Please note: Only galleries relevant to this Big Question will be open during this event. If you prefer a more flexible visit, please access our Big Question resources independently and plan to visit during our regular opening hours – you are welcome any time, though may find that we are quieter after 2pm on weekdays when most of our school visitors have departed.
